Can you help us deliver a petition to Sen. John Barrasso demanding the military start cleaning up its contamination of communities across the country?
David Swanson and I will be meeting at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, July 16th at the Dirksen South Convenience Dining Area, located in the Dirksen Basement South.
World BEYOND War has gathered 6,600 signatures on this petition directed at Sen. John Barrasso, (R-WY), Chairman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works. The petition calls for the passage of Sen. Debbie Stabenow’s bill, S. 1372 – The PFAS Accountability Act of 2019. Stabenow is from Michigan, a state ravaged by PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contamination.
The bold measure calls on the U.S. military to start cleaning up PFAS contamination at active and decommissioned military bases, and the communities surrounding them.
This article of mine provides some background.
Passage of S 1372 would be huge because it would compel the DOD to spend money it doesn’t want to spend. And it could run into the hundreds of billions. The bill does not touch the untold human suffering.
After we meet, we’ll head up to Barrasso’s office at 307 Dirksen. Barrasso is the top recipient of cash from the chemical industry and is not expected to favor a bill that requires the Pentagon to spend money it doesn’t want to spend.
