THE END OF THE ROAD
The End of the Road, by filmmaker Tai Uhlmann tells the story of a community created in Canada. In the 1960’s and 70’s American war resisters and free-spirited Canadians and Europeans moved to a small mill town in western Canada to tend the land. These counter-culture pioneers had to learn how to build their own homes, grow their own food and create a sense of community. Uhlmann uses the 16mm, Super 8 film and archival still photos shot by these adventuresome non-conformists to depict their ramshackle homes and free-living life-style. To what degree was this hippie commune of 50 years ago a model utopian community for us today?
