 Reject Juvenile Incarceration: Invest in our youth Strike down HB 814/SB 744  |
| The Issue: Democratic Party leadership has introduced a bill (HB 814 / SB 744) that severely limits opportunities to divert young people from the criminal justice system. The legislature appears to have yielded to pressure from Fox 45, Sinclair Broadcasting, police, and prosecutors, advocating for a return to failed law enforcement and incarceration-centric approaches to public safety. Unfortunately, there hasn’t been sufficient investment in front-end systems to prevent youth from entering the criminal justice system. The Challenge Contact the House Judiciary Committee. Demand that they STRIKE the entire bill, except for the portion that establishes a commission across various agencies to address challenges in the juvenile justice system. Take Action Now Email/Call the House Judiciary Committee and tell them to STRIKE HB 814 / SB 744 – except for the portion that establishes the Commision. Fill out the form (it takes less than 1 minute) to send an email to the entire committee.
