“Caged Dreams,” recounts the painful experiences of three immigrants while they were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and urges us to end the incarceration of immigrants. Nearly 250,000 people were held in about 200 ICE-run jails in 2021.

The film weaves their personal narratives with evocative animation to create a vivid picture of the experiences that immigrants have in jail and the disastrous impacts on their mental health and their loved ones.

The discussion following the film will be led by the director, Johannes Favi, who serves as the inaugural Freedom Fellow with Detention Watch Network, a group that works to end the incarceration of immigrants while they await the determination of their immigration status. Favi also serves as board member for the Illinois Community for Displaced Immigrants in Chicago, and advocates for legislation ending immigration detention in the Midwest and in D.C.
