Colleagues,
Attached is a letter to Sen. Van Hollen urging him to use the appropriations process to pressure the Supreme Court to adopt an enforceable ethics code.
The Forum was a great success, and the presenters were quite enthusiastic about their discussion and the dialogue with the well-informed audience. You can view the entire forum on Youtube at this link. Thank you for all the support work you did for this event.
One of Leonard Leo’s dark money groups passed $80,000 to Ginni Thomas according to the Washington Post for her work to overturn section 5 of the Voting Rights Act. A principal with the group emphasized that the paperwork should have “No mention of Ginni, of course.” Clarence Thomas neither declared his spouse’s source of income nor recused himself from the 2013 case, Shelby County v. Holder, in which he sided with the majority in favor of the spouse’s position. This seems to me to be the gravest incident yet reported involving possible fraud in the transfer of money, violation of disclosure, and failure to recuse with clear conflict of interest.
I will let you know when the next meeting of For the People – Maryland will be scheduled.
