On Monday, April 20, 2020, Reel and Meal in partnership with the Greenbelt Climate Action Network presents an Earth Day Special: A Focus on the Global Climate Crisis. Lore Rosenthal has curated an evening of short films and guest speakers to be presented via ZOOM – details below.
A few changes to our usual program: In keeping with social distancing and the stay at home protocol we have arranged with DC Vegan of the New Deal Café to have a special contactless Reel and Meal Picnic prepared for our audience. The meal will be: Chickpea smash sandwich w/lettuce, tomato, onion + chips + lemon dill potato salad $12. Add peanut butter or chocolate chip cookie for $2. Plan ahead and order by Sunday, April 19th 12pm to have your Reel and Meal Picnic ready between 3pm – 5pm on Monday, April 20 – Support your local New Deal Cafe! To order email: orders@dc-vegan.com – please use Reel and Meal Picnic for subject. Contactless pick-up and delivery available.
At 7 pm the program will begin, and it will conclude by 9:30. The presentation and discussion will be facilitated by Lore Rosenthal with a series of short film clips; a brief discussion will follow each film.
Film clips will include: Greta Thunberg, The Sunrise Movement, Project Drawdown, and Young Voices for the Planet. Several guest speakers have been invited to join us, such as a representative from the Eleanor Roosevelt High School Sunrise Hub, McKayla Wilkes for Congress campaign, Joseph Jakuta to talk about the School Board Climate Action Plan, and Tom Dernoga to talk about our County Climate Action Plan. Audience participation is strongly encouraged.
The event will be via ZOOM. RSVPs are REQUIRED – we will send the Zoom Invite to those who RSVP. Please RSVP to: reelandmeal@newdealcafe.com. This ZOOM event is limited to 100 people.
We encourage everyone to support the New Deal Café. To donate go to: https://www.newdealcafe.com/
Bonus! Those who donate will be entered into a random drawing to win the 50th Year Anniversary Poster created by local artists Jean Newcomb and Graeme Simpson. (You can view the poster on the attached R&M April 2020 announcement.) Drawing will be on a date TBD.
Reel and Meal, a monthly film series focused on environmental, social justice and animal rights issues, is organized by Beaverdam Creek Watershed Watch Group, Green Vegan Networking, Utopia Film Festival & the Prince George’s County Peace & Justice Coalition.
The April Reel and Meal program is sponsored by the Greenbelt Climate Action Network as part of its continuing efforts to engage the community in education, advocacy and action towards reversing climate change.
